Tigers extend spring training invite to Windsor's Robson
Windsor’s Jacob Robson was one of 20 players invited by the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday to attend the team’s Major League Spring Training camp in Lakeland, Fla. The 24-year-old Robson, who was an eighth-round draft pick by the Tigers in 2016, was brought up by the club during spring training last year, but this is his first official camp invite, which is extended to players not on the team’s 40-man roster.

“I wasn’t sure if I’d be invited this spring just because I know there are a lot of moving parts when it comes to selection of players,” Robson said on Tuesday. “I didn’t dwell on it this off-season because it was ultimately out of control.”However, the five-foot-10, 175-pound outfielder has moved quickly through the team’s farm system. An all-star in Class A and Class AA, Robson was assigned to Detroit’s top farm team in Toledo in June of last season as injury replacement. He performed so well that he never returned to Erie and finished the season with a .305 average in 57 games at Class AAA Toledo. “I’m confident, with my performance from last year, and I’m glad the Tigers liked it enough to invite me this spring,” Robson said. “It’s truly an honour and I’m looking forward to competing at the big league level.”The first workout for pitchers and catchers is scheduled for Feb. 13 with the first full squad workout on Feb. 18th.
